Northlight Theatre’s Play About a ’50s Sitcom Hits Some 21st Century Nerves

Northlight Theatre’s new play is titled The First Lady of Television. And Gertrude Berg, who wrote and produced the hit TV series, The Goldbergs, was a force of nature—and of the era’s culture. She polled as the second most popular woman in Amerca, right after Eleanor Roosevelt. Furthermore, she managed to persuade the CBS suits to produce and broadcast her show at a time when women (ahem) just didn’t do such things.

I imagine most of my readers are too young ot remember Gertrude Berg. So ask your parents—or your grandparents.
